We haven’t seen Dikki Du in a good while. Dikki and his Zydeco Krewe have been in their home state of Louisiana, jamming all over the place. We were fortunate enough to catch up with Dikki while they performed at William’s Backyard Boogie, a unique award-winning venue.
Local icon and singer/songwriter Forrest Williams and his wife Pherrel, opened up their backyard to host some of the best music you will ever hear. As 30A Songwriter Radio’s Josette said of the evening, “The breeze was cool and the music was HOT!”
It didn’t take long for the crowd to get all riled up and hit the dance yard. Kids were running around playing football, we had some serious hula hooping going on, and then there was Dikki Du and the Zydeco Krewe.
Dikki kept the crowd alive, even allowing a few to join in and play the wash board (or “scrub board” as he called it). At one point, Dikki asked if the crowd minded giving a group of kids four minutes of their time. The crowd of course agreed. The band allowed the kids to totally take over the drum kit, washboard, microphones and all, and they sounded pretty darn good. The little drummer was on it, although the accordion proved to be a little to heavy for the kids.
I’d like to give special thanks to Crystee Williams, who manages Dikki Du’s band and other local talent. Crystee happens to be a huge fan and supporter of 30A Songwriter Radio and what we are all about, and we certainly appreciate it.
