Meet the 2015 Digital Graffiti Artists, See Cutting-Edge Pieces During Songwriters Fest

Digital Graffiti at Alys Beach

Award-winning artists from around the U.S. will converge in Alys Beach this week for the Digital Graffiti Visiting Artist Residency program!

The public will have an opportunity to meet and greet the artists and get a glimpse into their creative process January 16-17, 2015, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on the pedestrian paths of Alys Beach.

In addition, during the 30A Songwriters Festival performances at Caliza Pool & Restaurant in Alys Beach, a retrospective of some of the most memorable artwork from past Digital Graffiti Festivals will be featured on the walls and buildings.

During the seven-day program, residency artists reside under one roof and collaborate with curator Brett Phares to create individual pieces, which will be entered into the juried Digital Graffiti Festival to be held June 4-6, 2015, at Alys Beach. The artists include Sean Capone of Brooklyn, New York, Andrew Demirjian of Palisades Park, New Jersey, Natalie Goldman of LaJolla, California, and Shantell Martin of New York City.

Digital Graffiti at Alys BeachDigital Graffiti has led the way for the past seven years in bringing cutting-edge art and culture to Northwest Florida by providing a venue perfectly suited as a “blank canvas” for digital artists to showcase their original works.

In June, finalists will have their work projected after nightfall for three evenings on the iconic white walls, windows, doors and bridges of Alys Beach.

Last year, 29 artists from 24 cities in 12 countries on four different continents participated in the festival. Bringing a few of them to Alys Beach to check out the site before the festival give them a chance to create work specifically for the show.

“Site-specific work to Alys Beach is important to Digital Graffiti, the Residency enables us to bring artists from other parts of the world out to generate more of it,” said Digital Graffiti curator Brett Phares. “We have had work at the festival that was strong, but once projected onto a particular wall, really came alive, and it ended up earning Best of Show.”
