Lifeguards Return to Keep Beachgoers Safe

Starting March 1, South Walton Fire District lifeguards are reporting to their ten tower locations, from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. This is the eleventh season the Beach Safety and Education Program, a partnership between the Fire District and the South Walton Tourist Development Council, will be in place.

New and returning lifeguards completed their annual 84-hour training, which consisted of medical training, surf rescue techniques and beach and water surveillance techniques along with complete strength and stamina conditioning.

“Keeping our swimmers safe is our number one priority,” said Beach Safety Director David Vaughan. “We are proud of the men and women that have completed this rigorous training and are ready to protect our beach visitors.”
