Hailed by Time magazine as perhaps "the most astounding design achievement of its era," Seaside is credited with founding a global town-planning movement known as "New Urbanism." Founded by Robert Davis in 1979, Seaside's innovative "small town" design was carefully planned by architects Andrés Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk. With its nine unique beach pavilions, cobblestone streets, quaint cottages, white picket fences, and picture-perfect parks and storefronts, it's no wonder that The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey was filmed here. Indeed, as Newsweek once proclaimed, "with its cozy, narrow streets and its jumble of pastel-colored homes, Seaside is probably the most influential resort community since Versailles."

Bud & Alley's Roof Deck Bar
Watching the sun slowly dip into the emerald Gulf waters is a favorite pastime for visitors and locals alike, and there's no better spot to soak-in that precise moment than Bud & Alley's Roof Deck Bar. A couple of 20-something surfing buddies opened Bud & Alley's in the late 1980s, when Seaside consisted of just 12 homes. Named after a neighborhood dog ("Bud") and cat ("Alley"), Seaside's famous sunset spot still packs 'em in every day. Be the patron to guess the exact time the sun will slip away, and win a free cocktail.
Modica Market
Located in Seaside's Central Square, Modica Market is family-owned and operated gourmet and specialty store. Owners Sarah and Charles Modica started out in the grocery business more than 50 years ago in Bessemer, Alabama, but moved to the beach with their son, Charles, in 1988. Since then, the quaint little store has been featured on CNN, in hundreds of articles (from Vogue to Condé Nast Traveler), and was also seen in Jim Carrey's The Truman Show.
Ruskin Place
Just to the north of Seaside's Central Square, visitors are delighted to discover Ruskin Place-a quiet park surrounded by art galleries, boutiques and beautiful private residences. Grab a read from Sundog Books and enjoy a relaxing afternoon under the welcoming shade of Ruskin Place's oak trees. You might even strike up a conversation with a "Ruskinite"-a term affectionately applied to Seaside's original settlers. The north side of the plaza is called Fairy Forest. Look up, and you might just see some Fairies (made by local children out of clay) peeking out at you from hidden perches.
