Y.O.L.O…. You Only Live Once. It’s more than a hollow cliché here in South Walton.
For many locals, it’s become a battle cry.
The South Walton-based YOLO Board team might not have invented the Standup Paddle Board (SUP) phenomena, but they’ve certainly captured and inspired the SUP lifestyle in a way that no one else has.
Just two or three years ago, seeing someone paddle effortlessly across Western Lake on an over-sized surf board was enough reason to pull off to the side of 30A and snap some photos. But today, YOLO Boards (and other off-shoot brands) are everywhere, and the movement is only growing in momentum… not just here, but across the U.S.
In so many ways, YOLO boarding is just like living here in South Walton.
It’s not mechanized or forced. It’s natural and fluid. It’s not obnoxious or loud. It’s subtle and serene. It’s not “extreme” or testosterone-driven. It’s accessible and family-friendly.
True, YOLO-ing may be excellent exercise, but it’s easy for absolutely anyone to pick-up, on their very first try. Age is irrelevant. After all, no matter how old you are, You Only Live Once.
