WE DID IT! 30A Scenic Walton Charity Tags Coming To Florida

In late 2021, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 676 to create a new 30A charity specialty license plate to raise money for Scenic Walton, a 501(c)(3) non-profit that works to improve our quality of life in Walton County. In order for the plates to be manufactured, at least 3,000 Florida residents needed to pre-register for the tag.

We are very proud and excited to announce that as of August 3, 2023, we achieved 3,000 registrations!

The Department of Motor Vehicles is now manufacturing the tags, which are available to all Florida residents. The license plate costs $66.90 at a tax collector’s office and $72.35 online (including a $5.45 shipping fee), with an annual renewal fee of $30 thereafter. The charity will receive a minimum of $75,000 per year to help secure grants and other resources to facilitate improvements across Walton County.

“Money raised by the new tags will help promote beautification and safety projects throughout all of Walton County, not just along the beach,” said Leigh Moore, Scenic Walton’s Executive Director. “We work to improve the landscaping in roadway medians, reduce litter, promote underground utilities, expand infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, and other projects that enhance the quality of life for Walton County residents and visitors.”

The team asked Walton County locals and 30A’s 1.7 million social media fans to help select the final tag design, which was created by Gulf Coast native, Jake Meyer. The winning design depicts the famous blue 30A logo against a subtle silhouette of Western Lake, one of Walton County’s most famous vistas.

“Of course, we have amazing beaches here, as do many Florida towns, but our coastal dune lakes really are unique to Walton County,” said Mike Ragsdale of The 30A Company. “I think our community made an excellent choice.”

The teams at Scenic Walton and The 30A Company would like to thank everyone for supporting the charity license plate project, including The J.W. Couch Foundation; the VIP 30A team, Rhonda Skipper, Katie Grimm, Artie Rodriguez and all of the other wonderful Walton County team members who we’ve worked with along the way; countless members of our community who shared word on their massive platforms, including Jessica Lynn Fay, Jessica Proffitt Bracken, Lori Smith of Destin Life and SoWal Life, and many more; Jake Meyer of I Will Design For Food, Inc. who designed the tag; and Paula Stanfield at the Division of Motorist Services in Tallahassee. Finally, we would like to sincerely thank our district state legislators, Representative Brad Drake and Senator George B. Gainer, for sponsoring Senate Bill 676, and to Governor Ron DeSantis for signing the bill to create the new tags. Everyone’s hard work on this project will no doubt have a long and lasting impact on our home!

“This is the only specialty tag that generates revenue exclusively for community projects here in Walton County,” said Moore. “So everyone who buys an official 30A Scenic Walton charity tag for their vehicle will help preserve Walton County’s beauty.”
