Double Red Flag Alert: Walton County Water is Closed

Posted Apr 10, 2021

The current beach flag condition is DOUBLE RED. While beaches are still open, all water is closed to the public in Walton County.

Life-threatening surf and rip currents exist, so stay on dry sand until further notice. To ensure the safety of our visitors and residents, entering the Gulf of Mexico is strictly prohibited. Crews already have transported one person to a local hospital after lifeguards responded to a water rescue call. The person was conscious and breathing at the time of transport. Strong work by our SWFD responding units.

Please note that tickets can be issued to anyone in the Gulf of Mexico when double flags are flown. Surfers with proper boards and gear are allowed to enter under county ordinance, but lifeguards, emergency personnel and law officers are allowed to prohibit surfers as well if they appear to be presenting a danger to themselves. Please do not risk your life – and the lives of rescuers – by taking any chances.
