Step into the world of Craig Alan’s Populous series, born from a moment of unexpected inspiration. While overlooking Orange Beach, Alabama, Craig noticed patrons at a wedding reception below seemed to gather in the shape of an eye. That spark became the foundation for an ongoing exploration of perspective, imagination, and collective form.

“Inspiration begins with a ‘What if…’ as I consider alternate imagery, surfaces, effects, results, etc.,” Craig explains. “It comes from the past in conjunction with now. Like a bolt of lightning.”

Since that first epiphany, the Populous series has grown to include dozens of instantly recognizable figures, icons spanning generations such as Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Freddie Mercury, James Bond, Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso, and more, each brought to life through the careful choreography of countless tiny figures.
