FORT WALTON BEACH – Save Our Cats and Kittens (SOCKS), a nonprofit, no-kill,
free-roaming cat shelter in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, is pleased to announce our first
Meowsterpieces art show and competition.
The show’s theme is feline, a celebration of all things cat, from their beauty and agility,
to their independence and playfulness. The great Leonardo da Vinci once said, “the
smallest feline is a masterpiece.”
Works will be displayed from Sept. 3, 2024, to Sept. 21, 2024, in the SOCKS event
building, with awards presentation and reception from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 21.
We invite all art styles, including painting, sculpture, photography, design, craft, video,
sound art, kinetic art, and performance.
There are three age categories: child (ages 12 and younger), teen (ages 13-17) and
adult (18 and older).
There will be two judging methods: A guest juror and People’s Choice.
We are honored to have J. Wren Supak as the guest juror. Supak is the Director &
Curator of Mattie Kelly Art Center Galleries at Northwest Florida State College.
People’s Choice winners will be determined by an online pay-to-vote system. $1 = 1
vote.
Trophies will be awarded to first, second, and third-place finishers in each age category
and judging method. So there will be nine winners determined by our guest juror, and
nine winners in People’s Choice. The same work may win in both judging methods.
All art styles are accepted, but the work must be the artists’ own. The entry fee is a
nonrefundable $25 for up to three pieces. The limit is three works per artist. The entry
fee supports the reception, artist awards and the SOCKS shelter.
Submitted art will be auctioned after the exhibition, with proceeds benefiting SOCKS.
