Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast Senior Spirit program will host its September Healthy Living Seminar titled “Current Advances in Treatment for Parkinson’s Disease” onWednesday, Sept. 13 at 10 a.m.
Leslie Herman, LSVT LOUD® Certified Speech-Language Pathologist with Sacred Heart, will present on a variety of topics including vocal loudness and stimulating the muscles of the larynx through a systematic hierarchy of exercises. She will also discuss ways to improve respiratory, laryngeal and articulatory function to maximize speech intelligibility.
Teri Hinckley, LSVT BIG® Certified Physical Therapist with Sacred Heart will also present on how to target movement impairments for people with Parkinson’s disease. This will include how the LSVT BIG® program can assist with increasing amplitude of limb and body movement, improved walking, balance, and functional abilities.
LSVT, named for Mrs. Lee Silverman (Lee Silverman Voice Treatment – LSVT) is an effective treatment designed for individuals with Parkinson disease. LSVT has been applied to individuals with stroke, multiple sclerosis, Down syndrome, and cerebral palsy with positive outcomes.
