Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic

Marlin magazine ranks Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic at Sandestin as one of the Top 10 Big Money Tournaments in the world, with over $1.4 million in cash prizes up for grabs.

We’re gonna need a bigger boat.

Every year, over 70 teams from around the globe show up at Baytowne’s marina. There’s a mad dash across Choctawhatchee Bay into the Gulf for a few days of serious sport fishing, and then the fleet returns, one-by-one, each boasting trophies that draw ooohs and aaaahs from a dock of spirited spectators.

This is a family-friendly event that grows in size each year, just like the tales of “the one that got away.”

It started out as a pretty cool little idea about bringing world-class songwriting talents to South Walton during January (a slower month that visitors typically don’t associate with a weekend trip the beach).

What few people expected was just how many of those world-class music industry talents (from Nashville and around the globe) would jump aboard so quickly and enthusiastically, and just a few years later, 30A Songwriters Festival is unquestionably one of South Walton’s most successful annual events.

Welcome to 30A!

January

Escape to Create is a non-profit organization that brings world-class artists and scholars to our South Walton community. Since 1993, Escape to Create’s residency program has offered artists of all varieties the gift of time and space to further explore their craft.

During the four-week residencies, artists live and work in the creative and colorful community of Seaside, in private cottages that are generously donated by their owners. Artists receive bicycles for local transportation, a weekly stipend and a weekly group dinner in a home environment. In exchange, the attendees are asked to contribute community services such as public readings, lectures, live performances, workshops, exhibits and/or local school visitations.

Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort’s 24th Annual Sandestin Gumbo Festival will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Village of Baytowne Wharf (12 p.m. – 4 p.m.). People from all over the southeast are expected to join in the festivities during the extended Presidents Day weekend.

“The Gumbo Festival is one of our longest running and most enjoyable food events,” said Lanier Motes, Special Event Manager for the Village of Baytowne Wharf. “Many Gulf Coast restaurants serve up their best gumbo, hoping to take home the ‘Area’s Best’ and ‘People’s Choice’ awards. Guests can look forward to tasting great gumbo and voting for their favorite, while listening to live Zydeco music.”
