Coffee, Art, Pilates and Kids — New Merchants at Gulf Place

Several new businesses recently opened in Gulf Place’s town center, including Dipity Do Dah Kids, Pilates by the Sea, Sara Lierly Art and Sunrise Coffee.

dipityDipity Do Dah Kids is a chic children’s boutique filled with fun gifts and clothing. The family-owned operation is the creation of Vicki Jones and daughter-in-law Samantha Jones, both born and raised in Alabama. The two entrepreneurs already run a women’s boutique in Birmingham, but jumped at the opportunity to open a children’s store along Scenic Highway 30A after having vacationed along the Gulf Coast for years. The quaint-sized boutique caters to all age children and will eventually offer arts and crafts events featuring local artists.

pilates

Laurie Beck’s interest in Pilates came as the result of a debilitating car accident. Beck found relief from her neck, shoulder and back pain in Pilates, a training method developed by Joseph Pilates. Laurie said that she feels incredibly grateful to be able to work with a variety of clients who range from being incredibly fit to those with extreme limitations. Pilates by the Sea is a comprehensive wellness and Pilates studio that also offers mat and barre classes, Reiki and stretching cardio jump classes.

sara

Sara Lierly has lived in Florida for over 10 years, but finally settled in Destin in 2007 where she first began painting in 2008. Sara admits she stumbled upon her artistic talents during the recession when she was commissioned to paint a mural by a local restaurant owner who promised to pay in pizza slices. Sara continued with sporadic art jobs until 2011 when a series of profound life events merged to produce the perfect storm of inspiration within her. She has not stopped since. Although Sara’s new location in the Artists at Gulf Place colony is her first dedicated permanent space, she has been doing shows throughout the region, including Art in the Park in Watercolor and ArtsQuest, where she won an Award of Merit.

sunriseStarted by Brad & Jenny McDowell along with business partner Boo Freeman, Sunrise Coffee Co. is a lifestyle brand extension of Sunrise Chair Co., a local beach chair and umbrella manufacturer. The group created Sunrise Coffee Co. in an effort to translate their love of the beach and all things local. Sitting just steps from the Gulf right along Scenic Highway 30A, Sunrise Coffee Co. serves 30A Coffee by Amavida Coffee, 30A Beach Blonde by Grayton Beer and many other authentically local products.

The family friendly café offers breakfast, lunch, ice cream and pastries to name a few. The casual laid-back beach vibe has quickly made Sunrise Coffee Co. a place where locals meet and visitors feel at home.
