The final scheduled races (weather permitting) are set for Thursday, August 7th at The Bay, located at the foot of the 331 bridge in Santa Rosa Beach.
SCHEDULE:
4:30 PM – Special Olympics Florida Athletes Relay
5:30 PM – Women’s Relay
6:00 PM – Men’s Relay
6:30 PM – CoEd Relay
Please arrive early to check-in. Carpooling is recommended, and The Bay will have valet parking available as well as overflow parking across the street. A deputy will be on hand to assist anyone crossing Highway 331. The Bay will of course serve up great food and Grayton Beer will be on-hand with beverages.
Paddlers will compete on YOLO 12’ recreation boards provided for complimentary use to racers by YOLO Board during each event. The series includes racers of all skill levels and ages from junior to seniors vying for the champion title, all the while rallying in friendly competition out on local waters.
This year’s event features giveaways, refreshments, and kids activities, as well as a welcomed new division to the race program dedicated to Special Olympics Florida SUP athletes from Okaloosa and Walton Counties. A strengthened supporter of Special Olympics since 2012, YOLO Board’s mission is to make SUP accessible and easy for area athletes.
“The relay series has always been about fun and community spirit and this season will no doubt be a continued celebration of that,” said YOLO Board co-founder Jeff Archer. “The sponsors, racers and spectators are why we’re able to bring this super fun event back each year, and we’re grateful to have the support of Sandcastle Escapes as our lead sponsor this year.”
The one-time race entry fee is $180 per three-person relay team ($60 per person). Complimentary 2014 signature event t-shirts are provided for each participating team.
