International Coastal Cleanup Day Returns to South Walton – Sep 17

The Walton County Tourism Department, along with the Friends of South Walton Sea Turtles, will once again host an International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) day on Saturday, September 17, from 9 – 11 a.m.

Both residents and visitors are encouraged to participate. Volunteer Beach Ambassador teams will be hosting teams at five South Walton Regional Beach Accesses listed below:

  1. Inlet Beach Regional Access, 139 S Orange St., Inlet Beach
  2. Ed Walline Regional Access, 4447 W Co Hwy 30A, Gulf Place
  3. Miramar Beach Regional Access, 2375 Scenic Gulf Dr., Miramar Beach

Participants can choose to count their collected debris via the Clean Swell App, available through both the App Store and Google Play. Volunteers may sign in with a Beach Ambassador to ensure that service hours are tracked and counted if needed.

“Ocean trash and plastic pollution are huge threats facing our oceans, marine life, and beaches. The International Coastal Cleanup Day is an opportunity to educate residents and visitors about global Clean Seas initiatives and demonstrate South Walton’s commitment to protecting not only our sea turtles but maintaining the pristine beauty of our sugary white sandy beaches for generations to come,” says Beth Coppedge, founder, and president of Friends of South Walton Sea Turtles.

Information about the types of debris collected is communicated to the Ocean Conservancy TIDES Database. This information will provide valuable data to experts and educational programs that work to address the ever-growing problem of ocean litter.

Join the South Walton community in their participation in the world’s largest volunteer effort on behalf of ocean health.
