Miss Julie is a naturalistic play written in 1888 by August Strindberg dealing with class, love, lust, the battle of the sexes, and the interaction among them. Set on a midsummer night of 1874, on the estate of a Count in Sweden, the young woman of the title, attempting to escape an existence cramped by socialmores and have a little fun, dances at the servants’ annual midsummer party, where she is drawn to a senior servant, a footman named Jean, who is particularly well-traveled, well-mannered and well-read.

The Chairs

Wed, Sept 19th @ 7:30 PM

The Chairs is an absurdist “tragic farce” written in 1952 by Eugene Ionesco. The play concerns two characters, known as Old Man and Old Woman, frantically preparing chairs for a series of guests who are coming to hear an orator reveal the old man’s discovery, which is implied as being the meaning of life. The guests supposedly include “everyone”, implying everyone in the world. As the “guests” arrive, the two characters speak to them, and reminisce cryptically about their lives. Finally, the orator arrives to deliver his speech to the assembled crowd.

Tickets are $10 for each performance and can be purchased now at seasiderep.org, at Amavida Coffee or by calling 850-231-0733.
