Now Open: Shunk Gulley Oyster Bar

Shunk Gulley Oyster Bar – a new restaurant featuring classic coastal cuisine, stunning views and authentic southern hospitality – recently opened at the corner of County Road 393 and Scenic Highway 30-A, just across the street from Gulf Place.

The restaurant and bar – with 40-feet of panoramic Gulf views – is named after the hard-to-find “shunk gulley” reef in the Gulf of Mexico. In fact, the intersection of County Road 393 and Scenic Highway 30-A once served as a point of navigation for boaters along the coast. Fishermen would launch straight out from what is now known as Ed Walline Beach Access to head out to the reef. Rumor has it that this secretive reef was one of the top fishing locations in the region.

In honor of this local lore, Shunk Gulley teamed up with South Walton Artificial Reef Association (SWARA) to bring active fisheries back to the area.

The restaurant is committed to help build a more diverse ecosystem that’s not only good for the Gulf, but good for dinner plates. Preserving the history of the area, new reef structures have already been deployed in the Gulf and bear the Shunk Gulley name. With an ongoing partnership with SWARA, more reef structure deployments are planned for the near future.

Check out this video of the recent reef deployment by Blue Door Video:

“Shunk Gulley is a full-service beach bar and restaurant with unbelievable Gulf views, food that’s simple yet delicious, and unbeatable service,” said General Manager, Kirk Williams. “We want this to become a staple of 30A for decades to come.”
