When it comes to entertainment, Scott Lassiter and Haley Guillebeau of DJ 30A absolutely know how to create a unique experience. Ask anyone who has hired them up and down the 30A corridor, and the comments are overwhelmingly positive. Yet, how did their stories intertwine to bring them here?
As the DJ in DJ 30A, Scott has a diverse career path. He is a former Marine, became a popular DJ in the Atlanta club scene, and is now a worldwide player in the Breakbeat and Electronic music production streaming scene. He is also the resident DJ at The Pearl Hotel in Rosemary Beach.
His mother, he says, encouraged his love of music from the time he was a teenager. “I have always played multiple instruments. In high school, my mother had to sign waivers or actually go with me to gigs that served alcohol. I am forever grateful that she supported my passion for music.”
To describe how he wound up living at the beach, Scott reflects on why he moved from Atlanta to 30A in 2009, “I read a book called The 4-Hour Work Week by Tim Ferris. It was a game changer!”
After reading it, he planned his big move to the beaches of South Walton, Florida. “The entire 6 hour drive from Atlanta, I had self doubts but I drove straight to the public beach access in Seagrove. I walked down to the beach, watched the sunset by myself, and instantly felt a huge wave of understanding on why I moved down here.”
“It was a serenity that I still feel in the air here on a regular basis.”
After his permanent move to 30A, Scott began DJ gigs at the Red Bar, the Songwriter’s Festival, and soon local wedding planners began booking him for their events. He booked 80 weddings in his first year.
His partner in business and in life, Haley Guillebeau, entered the picture a few years later after she made a permanent move to the beach from Birmingham. Within a few months, they were building the company together and booking events every weekend. In addition to management duties, she also runs the photo booth portion of the company. DJ 30A has grown into a full scale, all-in-one entertainment company specializing in weddings, corporate events, and themed nights.
“It is gratifying for us both to help people on their big day and see what it means to them,” Haley said. “[With the photo booth] People are literally smiling at me the whole time at events…how great is that?”
Along with DJ services and photo booth, the company offers custom events, lighting packages for dance floors and master of ceremonies work.
Scott added, “I am forever grateful to the 30A community for accepting me as their own.” Haley agrees, “There is something to say about the calming way of 30A beach life–happiness and love are always in the air.”
