Bud & Alley’s kicks-off their Spring Music Series on Thursday, April 4th, with Mary Gauthier making her first 30A appearance since 2012’s 30A Songwriters Festival!
Gauthier comes off as a practical, no-nonsense woman. Stoic, even. Which wouldn’t seem unusual except for the fact that her songs carry so much emotional punch, they can leave you staggering. She has a way of burrowing into that hole so many of us carry inside our souls, and emerging with universal truths that show we aren’t so alone after all. Scott Nolan and Joanna Miller will play an opening set before backing Mary up during her headlining performance.
Come out and enjoy drinks, food and an extremely talented singer-songwriter. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 the day of the show. The show will be RAIN OR SHINE (a tent will be set up if it is raining).
On Saturday, April 13th, the concert series welcomes Holly Williams. Part of the key to Williams’ success as a singer-songwriter is that it’s never been her mission to try and live up to the legacy cast by her famous and prolific father and grandfather – Hank Jr. and Sr., respectively – nor has she spent a lot of time trying to live it down.
The respect that Holly has garnered as an artist over the course of many years spent building an international fan base, and the release of two acclaimed albums, 2004’s The Ones We Never Knew (Universal South) and 2009’s Here With Me (Mercury Records). Now her new album, The Highway, finds the 31-year-old artist putting a distinctly personal spin on universal themes like love, loss, conflict, family and desire. She spent nine months and her own money recording it, but just because she went independent on this album doesn’t mean she was by herself. Throughout the process, the Nashville-based songwriter was surrounded by a hyper-talented supporting cast, including co-producer Charlie Peacock (The Civil Wars), her multi-instrumentalist husband Chris Coleman, bassist Glenn Worff (Mark Knopfler), pedal steel guru Dan Dugmore (James Taylor, Stevie Nicks), and friends like Dierks Bentley, Jakob Dylan, Jackson Browne and Gwyneth Paltrow who all make guest appearances on the record.
On Friday, April 19th, Bud & Alley’s welcomes back Willie Sugarcapps on the heels of their sold-out 30A Songwriters Festival performance this January. Comprised of Will Kimbrough, Anthony Crawford, Savana Lee, Grayson Capps and Corky Hughes, this group packs as much musical prowess, originality and pedigree as you could ever fit on a stage.
Come see what Emmylou Harris, Steve Winward, Neil Young, Jimmy Buffet, Rodney Crowell, Dwight Yoakum (all of whom have played with them or recorded their songs, or both) and countless others have known for years: They are amazing performers.
30A locals and fans know Jennifer Steele as the director of the Cultural Arts Alliance. But did you also know that Steele graduated from college with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theater and in 2000 co-founded the Seaside Repertory Theater and was its managing director for a decade? Steele is an accomplished actress and singer and starred in “Always Patsy Cline,” which was the most popular play in the theatre’s history. On Friday, April 26th, Jennifer, along with a live band, will perform a set of Patsy Cline’s most famous hits including “Crazy,” “I Fall to Pieces,” “Sweet Dreams” and “Walking after Midnight.”
