Burnt Pine Club, the private golf facility located at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, has named Brian Govi as head golf professional. Govi arrived from the PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, where he served as assistant golf professional and event manager. In his new role, he will oversee all aspects of the club including member relations, annual events and course operations.
Govi has spent the majority of his more than 20-year golf career in the state of Florida. He served as head golf professional at Madison Green Golf Club in Royal Palm Beach, The Club at Emerald Hills in Hollywood, and Wycliff Golf and Country Club in Wellington. He started his golf career at the Golf Club at Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, Arizona. Govi is a 1993 graduate of the University of Florida and became an official PGA Member in 1996.
“This is an amazing opportunity to lead a tremendous staff and loyal membership at one of the finest private golf clubs in Florida,” said Govi. “Burnt Pine has a legendary reputation and has received numerous accolades from all the major golf publications over the years. I look forward to the challenge of taking Burnt Pine to a new level for our members and resort guests.”
Burnt Pine Golf Club opened in 1994 and is a Rees Jones designed course measuring 7,000 yards from the championship tees. Upon opening, Burnt Pine was named the third best new course in America by Golf Digest. It presently ranks among the Top 75 in Florida by the same publication. It is also listed among the “Best Courses You Can Play” by Golfweek.
The course offers an interesting contrast with the front nine playing through environmentally protected pine forests and wetlands while the back nine features breathtaking views of Choctawhatchee Bay. The layout sits adjacent to Sandestin’s famed Raven Golf Club making it the only place in the world where Rees Jones and Robert Trent Jones, Jr., courses meet.
