Poet and singer-songwriter Kyle Carey will perform as the guest poet of the popular local poetry open mic “Say the Word” on Wednesday, February 20th at Buddha Lounge at 7:00 pm.
Inspired by the Appalachian poetry of Louise McNeill and the songs of the American Folk Anthology, Carey studied Scottish Gaelic as a Canadian Fulbright Fellow. Her debut CD, Monograph, was recorded in Ireland with an all-star cast of Irish musicians and folklorists. The title track was selected as a Songwriter’s Universe ‘Best Songs of the Month (April 2011)’ and a ‘Top Critics Pick of 2011’ on WorldMusicCentral.org.
“We are very excited for the opportunity to collaborate with Escape to Create and to showcase Kyle Carey,” said Say the Word founder Maria Schabla.
“Say the Word” is a collective group of poets and spoken word artists dedicated to creating a platform for poets and spoken word artists to perform, encouraging local writers to collaborate and network; and making poetry more viable in the community by hosting monthly open mic nights. The monthly open mic nights occur on the third Wednesday of every month at Buddha Lounge in Blue Mountain Beach, beginning at 9:00 pm. Poets mostly perform original works, but are also encouraged to share other poems that inspire them.
