Join cold wax and oil artist Robyn Martins for a one-day workshop on March 16 at the Cultural Arts Alliance Bayou Arts Center at 105 Hogtown Bayou Lane in Santa Rosa Beach. You’ll learn the basics of painting with cold wax and oil – including how to paint on paper and on wood panels, how to add layers of color creatively, what tools to use for best results, and what techniques work well with this unique medium. You’ll work on four paintings throughout the day, which will give you a solid foundation for working with cold wax. Bring your own oil paints, while everything else is provided – including cold wax, a 10” x 10” wood panel, oil paper, brayer, silicone scraper, palette knives, palette paper, Gamsol and applicator, and miscellaneous items you’ll find helpful as you explore this exciting medium.
You will need to bring your own oil paints to customize your cold wax and oil workshop experience. You’ll need small tubes of several colors—your favorite white or warm white, a yellow, a red or orange, a blue of your choosing, and your favorite dark color, such a black or deep brown.
A modifying color, such as a gray or Gamblin’s titanium buff, may also come in handy, as may any other color you enjoy working with. Student grade paints will be fine. Also consider bringing an apron or work shirt. We’ll have everything else you’ll need, and you will take home all the provided supplies at the end of the workshop.
