When Timothy and Patsy Hardin opened Jewelry of 30A last year, they finally realized their dream of making a permanent home along the gorgeous beaches of South Walton where they have vacationed for years.
The couple, married about 40 years, have been in the jewelry business for decades, but always hoped to make the move to 30A from their longtime residence in Nashville, Tennessee. Now, they are offering their unique finds and original creations at their location in Seagrove Beach, and loving every minute of it.
Everyday, Tim can be found at his jeweler’s desk, toiling away with his tools, resizing rings, creating exact replicas of heirloom or antique jewelry and designing his own creations. He does a lot of platinum work, which many jewelers can’t do, as well as fabrication, stone setting and even building pieces from scratch.
“For this area, that is a big draw because people don’t want a cookie-cutter ring,” Tim said. “They want something they designed or that I’ve designed. Instead of buying something already fabricated, they can have it done to their taste and their budget as well.”
Tim’s desk sits behind a glass partition so patrons can watch him at work and even chat with him about what he’s working on. Patsy is always close by, helping customers and ordering pieces to stock their shelves.
The two travel to jewelry shows across the country, especially to California, a leader in jewelry trends, and bring back truly original pieces for their customers. Tim’s particular love is estate jewelry, especially pieces from the 1920s and 30s, and they work with plenty of those pieces as well, he said.
In addition to ring settings and jewelry work, the couple also have a wall full of costume jewelry, freshwater pearl pieces and even some unique leather handbags.
“I’ve been dealing in jewelry for a long time and I have a passion for it,” Tim said. “We’re here now and we want to serve the community. We just love it.”
