Books. Brushstrokes. Brilliance.
Books. Brushstrokes. Brilliance.
This month, Curate, in collaboration with Vinings Gallery, proudly presents a special exhibition featuring the captivating works of acclaimed artist John-Mark Gleadow.
Celebrated for his hyper-realistic oil paintings, Gleadow transforms classic book spines into rich, layered compositions that are as nostalgic as they are thought-provoking. His meticulous technique and bold imagery breathe life into beloved literary icons, turning each canvas into a visual conversation piece.
Meet the artist in person June 24–27, during exclusive daily appearances from 11 AM–2 PM and 5–9 PM.
Born in Delaware, Gleadow initially pursued a degree in mechanical engineering at the University of Delaware. But one elective painting class changed everything. His final project from that course sold in a Washington, D.C. gallery, and he never looked back, earning his BFA in Painting in 1998.
Inspired by surrealists like Magritte and Dalí, as well as the technical precision of Vermeer, Gleadow blends photorealistic illusion with imaginative depth. From iconic book covers to surreal portraits that break the frame of reality, his work invites viewers to linger and look closer.
Gleadow’s paintings are featured in collections across the country and have earned national recognition, including the Emerging Artist Grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts and Best Figurative Work from the Rehoboth Art League. He was also awarded a prestigious fellowship from the Savannah College of Art and Design to pursue his MFA.
Don’t miss this opportunity to experience his newest works, and perhaps take one home.
