We are here to serve. Our mission is A Simple Way to Connect People to Jesus.
Hope on the Beach Church is a Lutheran mission church founded in 1998. The mission statement was “Turning On The Light in South Walton”. Ray Angerman, the current pastor of Good Shepherd in Shalimar, served as a part-time mission developer for Hope.
Hope’s first home was in the Seaside Meeting Hall behind Modica’s Market. Through the years, Hope has met throughout South Walton County from Seaside to St. Rita’s Catholic Church Parish House, a fire station on Hwy 393, Grayton Beach, Gulf Place on Hwy 30A, and many points in between.
Hope’s first beach service at Ed Walline Park, at the intersection of Hwy 393 and 30A, was held as an Easter Sunrise Service in 2003. Hope then began holding Sunday beach services every Sunday on June 1, 2003. Our beach service has become a favorite for locals and visitors as well. The Easter Sunrise Service held each year at Ed Walline Park has become a South Walton community tradition, with as many as 860 in attendance.
The congregation called Pastor Jason Scheler a full-time pastor in September 2009. Pastor Scheler, from Wixom, Michigan, served as the Wixom Campus minister for Saint Matthew Lutheran Church. He and his wife, Kristie, have three children: Kayla, Jacob, and Jenna.
