Visitors and Locals Take Polar Bear Plunge on New Year’s Day

Locals and visitors kicked off 2015 with a Polar Bear Plunge into the Gulf of Mexico in support of the South Walton Fire District.

The plunge took place at 1:00 p.m. at Ed Walline Beach Access across from Gulf Place. The event included a $50 prize for the best costume, camp fires on the beach, hot drinks, food and live music. Participants were asked to make a $20 donation to benefit the fire district’s department relations committee. Funds go towards purchasing fire and life safety educational and promotional items such as smoke alarms, color books, and helmets. The 30A Store also printed special t-shirts for participants, with all proceeds going to the fire department.
