A hands-on lesson in confidence, communication, and character.
Seaside Neighborhood School will host its annual Amazing Shake competition this week, on January 8–9, 2026. The two-day event, modeled after the national program developed by the Ron Clark Academy, is designed to help students build strong communication skills, self-confidence, and professional presence.
The Amazing Shake emphasizes real-world etiquette and leadership development, challenging students to demonstrate traits such as respect, discipline, eye contact, and conversational skills in a series of fast-paced, interactive rounds.
The event schedule includes four primary rounds:
Round 1: The Gauntlet & The Ultimate Quest (January 8)
Students will rotate through rapid, one-on-one stations where they’ll be tested on first impressions, communication, and adaptability.
Round 2: On-Stage Interviews (January 8)
Participants will answer interview-style questions in front of a panel of judges, evaluated on clarity, poise, and presence.
Round 3: Debate + Brunch (January 9)
Students will engage in team-based debates during a formal brunch, practicing both professional etiquette and persuasive speaking.
Round 4: One-on-One Interviews (January 9)
The top six finalists will participate in individual interviews on the Lyceum Stage. This round is open to the public.

Created by the Ron Clark Academy in Atlanta, Georgia, The Amazing Shake is a national program that introduces students to key life skills often not taught in a traditional classroom setting. Seaside’s version of the event gives students hands-on experience with real-world interactions, often with local business leaders and professionals.
Students are evaluated on a 20-point scale based on various character traits, including: Confidence, Manners, Discipline, Poise, Respect, Social Grace, Compassion, Enthusiasm, Common Sense, Humor, Humility, Courage, Je Ne Sais Quoi, and Soul
Scoring is done in increments of 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20, with 20 representing performance that exceeds expectations.
The event is supported by volunteers from the local community who serve as judges, station hosts, and mentors. Volunteers are encouraged to dress in business casual and decorate their stations, especially during the Gauntlet and Ultimate Quest rounds.
Students are expected to wear their royal blue and khaki school uniforms and may bring a water bottle and lunch, though pizza will be provided.
The top-performing students from Seaside’s event will earn a place at the national Amazing Shake competition at the Ron Clark Academy, where they will represent the school among peers from across the country.
A full event recap and photo gallery will be shared following the conclusion of the competition.
