The Repertory Theatre is rolling out its 2014 Summer Season, featuring a wide range of shows and workshops. The line-up has plenty for visitors and locals alike with children’s theatre, musical performances, one-act plays, improvisation classes and even a magician. Here’s a quick look at what’s happening at The REP:
Summer fun kicks off with The REP’s “Seaside Shorts” — a variety of bite-sized plays. This fast and furiously fun program puts audiences up close with The REP’s company of chameleon-like actors playing multiple characters in a series of short plays by well-known and emerging playwrights. With a bit of something for everyone, “Seaside Shorts” is the most fun 90 minutes you’ll have all summer.
All along the 30A — in Alys Beach, Rosemary Beach, Seaside and WaterColor — The REP will perform free weekly theatre shows where students will learn the basics of improv, creating solid scene work and fun characters. Students will also learn different types of improv formats, structures and games.
Following last season’s sell-out show, The REP has invited back professional magician Jeanette Andrews to share her magic with family performances, kids’ workshops and thought-provoking magic shows. Hailed by national media as “an inspiration” and “magic for the twenty-first century,” magician Jeanette Andrews presents a new take on the art of the impossible.
Students will learn several age-appropriate magic tricks like magically knowing what color crayon a friend has chosen from a box without ever seeing it, and making a ball disappear and instantly reappear.
“If you attend any of The REP shows this summer, you will want to come again. Laughter and giggles are guaranteed,” said Brook Stetler, The REP’s Executive Director. “With the generous support of our sponsors and local 30A communities, we offer excellent professional theatre throughout Summer, the busiest time of the year.”
