Each spring, area stand-up paddleboard enthusiasts gather for an exciting season of four monthly relay races known as the YOLO Board Relay Series. A high spirited kick-off for the 6th edition of the beloved event is set for Thursday, May 30th at the WaterColor BoatHouse on Western Lake. YOLO Board is currently seeking both community sponsors and race teams for this year’s series.
Presented by longtime sponsor Destin Real Estate Company, the 6th Annual YOLO Board Relay Series features relay-style competition between male and female teams of three in the Recreational division and the Next Level division. The light-hearted series includes racers of all skill levels and ages from junior to seniors vying for the coveted champion title and engaging in fun, friendly competition out on the water. New additions to this year’s event include race giveaways, live music, refreshments and special kids activities.
“Destin Real Estate Company is proud to support the YOLO Board Relay Series for the fourth consecutive year,” said owner Blake Morar. “The races are a blast whether you are a racer or a spectator. It’s a great showing of the spirit of our South Walton community, and we are looking forward to cheering on all of the participants this year.”
All events will be held at YOLO Board Adventures at the WaterColor BoatHouse and scheduled races (weather permitting) are May 30, June 13, July 18 and August 8. Paddlers will compete on YOLO 12’ recreation boards and YOLO 12’6” Predator and 14′ Prowler race boards provided for complimentary use to racers by the company during each event.
“The relay series is our way of giving back to the community that has supported us since the beginning,” said Mitzi Archer, Director of Marketing for YOLO Board. “We are always overwhelmed and inspired by the commitment and enthusiasm of our local paddlers and enjoy providing a forum for the growth of the sport. We’ve added a lot of fun twists to this year’s series and can’t wait to see everyone out on the water in May.”
A wide range of sponsorship opportunities are available for businesses and individuals wishing to support the series. For racers, the one-time race entry fee is $180 per three-person relay team ($60 per person) for both the Recreational division and the Next Level division. Complimentary 2013 signature event t-shirts will be provided for each participating team.
