If you’ve ever felt inspired by the sugar-white sands, emerald waters, or rich culture of Walton County, you’re not alone, and if you’re an artist who captures that spirit, your moment might be now.

The Walton County Tourism Department is now accepting applications for its prestigious 2025 Artist of the Year Award, a community-driven honor that has been spotlighting local talent for more than two decades.

Celebrating its 23rd year, the program seeks to recognize an artist whose work authentically reflects the beauty, creativity, and character of Walton County.

Submissions officially open May 1, and the deadline to apply is Saturday, May 31 at 5 p.m. CDT. Artists can apply and find full program details at waltoncountyaoy.com, including rules, eligibility, and instructions for submission.

The winner will be announced at the Walton County Tourism Annual Meeting in October 2025, and will receive a $4,000 commission to create an original work of art that will be permanently showcased within the county.

“Walton County is home to incredibly talented individuals who showcase their craft through creative mediums,” said Matt Algarin, tourism director for Walton County Tourism. “Through our Artist of the Year program, we’re not only highlighting a deserving local artist, but we’re also sharing their vision with a wider audience throughout the year.”

The selected artist will enjoy ongoing exposure through tourism events, exhibitions, and marketing platforms. Past winners have included painters, photographers, and mixed-media artists, such as Sarah Page, Bradley Copeland, Joseph Messer, Chandler Williams, and Melody Bogle—each bringing their unique lens to life on canvas and beyond.

Applicants will be evaluated based on the originality, authenticity, and overall appeal of their work. Finalists will take part in in-person interviews and present three examples of their art before a review panel.

Whether you’re an emerging creative or an established local name, the Artist of the Year program offers more than recognition—it’s a platform to showcase your passion, contribute to the cultural fabric of the community, and leave a lasting impression on residents and visitors alike.
