The 2015 30A Charity Golf Classic raised $23,000 for Food For Thought, a local non-profit providing food for kids in need in Walton and Okaloosa County. The third annual event, presented by The Aesthetic Clinique, was once again held at the beautiful Santa Rosa Golf & Beach Club on October 10.

“We’re extremely excited to see this event continue to grow each year,” said The 30A Company’s Angela Ragsdale, who founded the tournament.

“We are so grateful to all of our sponsors and players for supporting this cause and coming out to make this event such a fun time for all.”

Check out this interview with participant Louis Petit of Louis Louis:

Food For Thought, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization based in Santa Rosa Beach, provides backpacks filled with healthy, easy-to-prepare food for students who are dependent on free or reduced school meals.

The organization has grown tremendously since it began five years ago. Founder Tiffanie Nelson said partnering with the 30A Charity Golf Classic this year helped gain exposure for the organization, as well as a much-needed financial support.

“During the first nine weeks of this school year, Food For Thought has added 300 additional children into our program, now reaching 1,070 children per week,” Nelson said. “These funds will help support those additional kids for the next 15 weeks of the school year.”

The fun and playful tournament offered plenty of interesting challenges for golfers.

Players could tee off on one of 30A Gear’s silicone shot glasses to compete for longest drive, ask five-time Ladies Professional Golf Association champion Sophie Gustafson to take a shot for them, or pay off Carl from Caddyshack (otherwise known as Brook Stetler of The Rep Theater) to NOT take a swing at their ball.

The four-person team of Jonathan Mitchell, Jordan Mitchell, Hayes Gibson and Bill Roxby, took home the grand prize. Other prizes were awarded for longest drive and some amazing silent auction giveaways brought in some addition funds for Food For Thought, as well.

“The participants really help make this event such a fun time,” Ragsdale said. “We look forward to seeing everyone out here again next year.”
