The Law Enforcement Torch Run is the largest annual public relations and fundraising event for Special Olympics Florida and law enforcement agencies. For 30 years, the “Flame of Hope” has traversed Florida in an intrastate relay of simultaneous routes throughout the state, covering thousands of miles. The torch is carried by law enforcement officers throughout the state to the opening ceremonies of Special Olympics Florida’s State Summer Games, held at Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports on May 17-18, 2013.
The Walton County leg of the Special Olympics Florida Law Enforcement Torch Run is on Thursday, March 28th.
Officers will begin to gather at Frank’s Corner at 915 Highway 90 West, Defuniak Springs, FL, promptly at 8:30 a.m. This is located directly across the street from Northwest Florida State College. Officers will carry the torch eastbound on U.S. Highway 90 for approximately 1.5 miles and end on the front lawn of the Walton County Courthouse. Multiple Law Enforcement agencies have already committed to this event, and we are again expecting a large turnout. We need YOUR help! Our goal is to have the local community and all Walton County schools come out to the Walton County Courthouse to cheer on the officers and show your support of Special Olympics Florida athletes.
