Over 2,000 runners are expected for the festive 30A 10K and Fun Run held on Thanksgiving Day.

The race, which starts and finishes at Rosemary Beach, is the state Road Runners Club of America championship 10K and has become a popular holiday tradition. Proceeds benefit Shelter House domestic and sexual violence center, the Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center and Donations 4 Danny.

Organizers have events planned starting Tuesday the whole family can enjoy in the days leading up to the race.

Kick it off Tuesday with breakfast with “Lucky,” the 30A 10K Turkey, at Fish Out of Water in WaterColor from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Packet pick-up is Wednesday from noon to 7 p.m. at Watersound Origins, and that’s when the party really gets started with lunch at the Watersound Origins Café, live music from 3 to 7 p.m., lawn games, yoga classes, face-painting, trunk shows and the 30A Gear truck.

On Race Day, Scenic Highway 30A will shut down to vehicle traffic at 6:45 a.m. to get ready for the races. The sounding bell for the one-mile Fun Run is at 7:30 a.m. The 10K sets off at 7:35 a.m.

Over the years, long-distance running has become synonymous with the noble cause of raising funds for charities, and the 30A 10K is certainly no exception. In fact, the 30A 10K race team has been hard at work to make this year’s race not only a spectacular event, but also to use it as an opportunity to give back to the community in the spirit of the Thanksgiving season.

Since the race’s inception just two years ago, the 30A 10K charity race has donated over $58,000 to local non-profits.
