Alys Beach is joining the fight against breast cancer with the Fifth Annual Caliza Goes Pink campaign, an event the began five years ago as a one-night dinner and has now spread into a month-long, town-wide breast cancer awareness and fundraising effort.

Kevin Korman, head chef of Caliza Restaurant, started the event in honor of his mother, a breast cancer fighter and survivor, who this year celebrates 10 years of being cancer free.

Through the end of October, Korman is preparing a special five-course tasting menu incorporating cancer-fighting ingredients for $65 per person.

The dessert course will be sold separately for those who do not partake in the entire menu.

All of the proceeds, or about 80 percent of the price of the meal, will go to Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast’s Women’s Center and the treatment and research facility in Pennsylvania where Korman’s mother was treated.

Last year, the effort raised $4,000. This year they are shooting for between $6,000 and $8,000, Korman said.

In addition, the restaurant and the whole town of Alys Beach will be lit up pink and a Digital Graffiti artist will project a special pink-themed digital work on Caliza’s walls.

Special pink-themed treats will be available throughout town including a cup of coffee at Fonville Press, a craft cocktail at Caliza and a donut at Charlie’s.

Additionally, Alys Beach’s iconic butteries and stark white town walls will be lit up with pink lights throughout the month.

Guests are also encouraged to enter the Alys Experience Sweepstakes raffle for a chance to win an amazing package, including a three-night stay in Alys Beach, a five-course meal with wine pairings prepared by Korman and other wonderful treats.
