North Beach Social is hosting Dance for Dawn – a fundraiser for our favorite locals – photographer Dawn Whitty and her husband, singer-songwriter Mike Whitty on Saturday, February 25.
The all-day event will feature live music and fantastic food and drink specials, and of course a portion of the proceeds will support Dawn’s medical expenses for post-cancer treatments.
In the summer of 2021, Dawn was diagnosed with plasmacytoma, an invasive tumor that fractured her L-4 vertebrae, leaving her unable to walk. She underwent three emergency spine surgeries in two months, followed by 25 radiation treatments. During a bone marrow biopsy, the family received more bad news and Dawn was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, for which she underwent a bone marrow transplant.
