Friends of the Coastal Branch Library announced their artist of the month, Dave Sullivan.
Born and raised in Texas, Dave went to college in Santa Fe, New Mexico and started work in the corporate world with a major manufacturing corporation back east.
After moving to the Dallas area as Chief Information Officer for a manufacturing company, he used the little spare time he had from family and work to shoot 35mm film, without much training. Looking back, he was amazed at what could be achieved with little technology.
A few years ago he purchased a digital camera and recruited some help from a professional on the best use of the features. Dave also found a way to adapt the lens from his older film camera to the digital camera for more flexibility in shooting.
Dave Sullivan
Most of his work is natural with a possibility of a slight crop or conversion of a color photo to black and white. He doesn’t use photo enhancing software to make tricked-out images. As is evident from his work, most of his images are of nature – the landscape, plants, and animals.
These days, Dave finds himself seeing many photo prospects as he travels in this area and across the country. The Florida panhandle offers incredible images and if they are shot properly they need little or no editing.
