First Artificial Reef Already Full of Life

South Walton’s first artificial reef is already full of life, just a month after it was placed off the shore of Grayton Beach State Park.

South Walton Artificial Reef Association spearheaded this groundbreaking project, with plans for 18 more artificial reefs that can be used for fishing, diving and snorkeling.

What you may not know: The reef is shaped like a sea turtle, to the delight of park rangers at Grayton Beach who said it was a perfect fit for their park.

Where to find it: The reef is located west of the Grayton Beach State Park walkover between the ninth and tenth “Don’t Walk on Dunes” signs.
