Justin Gaffrey Debuts New Work Saturated with Freedom, Experimentation and Facing Fear

Justin has been immersed in a dramatic new interpretation of the artists of his youth. It is experimentation for the sake of experimentation. The new works coming out of Justin Gaffrey Studio are saturated with the freedom of boundary-pushing and facing fear.

“These pieces have a bit more of me in them because they have darkness – not in a bad way, just in a human kind of way. I honestly love dark things,” said Justin.

I like darkness, but I am afraid to use it a lot in my work because it scares people sometimes.”

Bold New Abstract Florals

“I’ve always been afraid to use a lot of black, but that black is helping me to get that contrast and saturation I am looking for.”

“I am generally not an abstract artist. I have a hard time painting abstracts because my hand always wants to paint objective things. Muscle and mind memory call to me saying ‘you have to make sense of this.'”
