About Surfing Deer:

Surfing Deer in Seagrove Beach, Florida, is more than just a restaurant, it’s quite literally a homage to a large part of the history of this well-known and vibrant 30A beach community.

In the 1940s, South Walton developer C.H. McGee had a vision for this little community with a bluff of thick trees overlooking the Gulf, and sat out to create his dream, after purchasing the land encompassing Seagrove for just $75,000.

McGee’s son, Cube, was somewhat of a local celeb across the county, and could often be seen out walking the sand and playing in the Gulf waters with the family’s pet deer, Bambi.

Jump ahead to 2016 when local entrepreneurs and restaurateurs, George and Ann Hartley, chose the former location of V Seagrove as the basis of their newest restaurant venture. Because of the rich history of Seagrove, the Hartleys chose the name Surfing Deer –along with the deer mascot– for this new upscale 30A eatery, situated right in the heart of one of 30A’s first traveled beach communities.

As a restaurant, Surfing Deer is a great place for people to dine while taking in the wonderful views of 30A and the beautiful Gulf of Mexico.

The upscale atmosphere is permeated throughout all facets of Surfing Deer, and everything from the décor to the friendly culinary and service staff let you know the kind of restaurant you are in. Make no mistake though, Surfing Deer is all about great food.

With a wide array of American and Seafood, Surfing Deer has something for everyone. From their Crispy Vegan Wings, Clothesline Bacon, and Bloody Mary Oysters to their Caramelized Sea Scallops, Chargrilled Lamb and Havana Grouper, you just can’t go wrong with whatever you choose.

They also offer vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options, along with an extensive array of mixed drinks, wines, craft beer, and coastal libations. And while we’re talking drinks, Surfing Deer is a great place for hitting a 30A happy hour.

The restaurant is open Monday – Friday from 5:00-9:30 (closed Sunday) serving dinner only, as well as being available for take-out orders during the same time frame. If you’re heading to Surfing Deer in the busy spring and summer seasons, you’ll definitely want to call ahead, as this is one hotspot that fills up fast.

Once you try it, you’ll be glad you did, and likely find yourself heading back for more on your next 30A getaway to paradise.
