30A Q&A: Locals Tell All

MEGAN LYONS
National Sales Director, The 30A Company

1. What makes living at the beach so special?

What I love most is the vacation feeling that surrounds the beach. Everyone tends to be more relaxed and in good spirits. I have to pinch myself when I leave work and catch the sunset or can eat lunch at the beach. I also love having friends and family visit and going to the many wine and beer festivals that are held year round.

2. Three favorite local spots?

Amici’s happy hour is a must! I love the vibe, and the food is amazing. We come here on a weekly basis for wine and pizza–it’s a perfect date night.

Black Bear Bread Co. in Grayton is my go-to for weekend brunch and coffee. You HAVE to try the Kouign-Amann. I have dreams about this pastry. Come early as this adorable but small space fills up quickly.

Right around the corner from Black Bear is my favorite lunch spot, Chanticleer. The food here is home-cooked and delicious! I highly recommend the Chanticleer Grilled Cheese and a Coconut-White Chocolate cookie to-go.

3. Best place for a night out?

My friends and I usually hit up Chiringo for a casual night-out. They have a laid-back, beachy environment, great drinks and food, and an awesome outdoor space with games. The Pearl rooftop is also a favorite to grab a few drinks and appetizers. It’s a great place to catch up when friends are in town and the view is beautiful at sunset!

 4. Most delicious menu item?

My favorite meal has to be at Sushimoto in Miramar Beach. This is a family owned sushi spot with very limited seating. They have a menu that changes regularly, but I always go for the Pink Panther roll that is sometimes not listed–it’s to die for!

 5. What do you do in your free time?

The beach is an obvious answer for me–I truly go any chance I get whether it’s to read a book, go for a run, paddle board, or just get some sun. When I’m not at the beach, I love sewing! I have so much fun creating something new out of my thrift shop finds. Having gone to school for fashion, I love following trends and upcycling clothing.

BONUS:  How long have you been a local?

I moved here from Denver in 2016. I lived in Dallas before that and am originally from Atlanta. I vacationed in the area growing up and knew I had to live at the beach one day. 🙂
