Two Public School Teachers Offer Sea Camp in Walton County

Heather and Tim O’Toole are both public school teachers in Walton County whose love of the beach and sea life inspired them to start their very own Sea Camp in South Walton. Their enthusiasm for teaching is infectious, and their Sea Camp is now in its third year.

30-A Sea Camp is a camp designed for elementary age kids, ages 8-11, to learn more about the ocean and the animals that make it their home.

“Students learn best through experiences, which is why we provide hands-on beach room workshops and labs (fish and squid dissection) incorporated with a wide variety of field activities,” said Heather.

“We are so happy to be able to share our love of sea life with kids outside our classrooms.”

The O’Tooles moved to Walton County, Florida six years ago and continue to enjoy their life at the beach. Tim was a marine biologist in California before they moved to Florida. He is now a special education teacher. Heather has been an elementary school teacher for 21 years, the past 6 in Walton County.

The 4-day Sea Camp is held at Ed Walline Beach park from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and the open sessions for the summer are May 29- June 1 and June 4-7, 2018. Students need to be able to swim. Space limited to 8 students per session and the cost is $300 per child. This includes snacks, drinks, supplies, animal dissections, authentic fish printing (tgyotaku) on a take home shirt. For more information or to sign up contact Sea Camp on 30-A.
