Chef Tommy Stein Creates a New Seaside Sóng

Seaside welcomes Southeast Asian Street Food to its famous Airsteam Row.

Song-in-Seaside-960Called Sóng — which means “Wave” in Vietnamese — this new aluminum venue will soon serve-up Southeast Asian street food, created with fresh local products. Owners Tommy and Patricia Stein plan to officially open on July 1st, and Seaside visitors should be able to spot the Blue Heron on top (the mascot serves as the accent mark in the Sóng logo, as mandated by the Vietnamese language).

Chef Tommy Stein got his start in kitchens here on Scenic Highway 30A when he was just 14 years old.

He left for California to pursue its lively food scene and soon found himself ascending San Francisco’s culinary ranks. He was later drawn away by an offer to work in Australia, where he spent the next four years running kitchens, surfing and hopping over to sample Asia whenever possible.

But Tommy’s travel bug is fueled by more than just an ache for the next surf break — he chases the flavors and spices of street food. Tommy said that the food carts he discovered in the back alleys of Southeast Asia have now inspired his menu at Sóng, and he strongly believes in sourcing from the best local producers and letting their work unfold by preserving the integrity of the ingredients.

Tommy says that he’s very excited to be back here on his old stomping ground, soaking up our southern sun and cooking beautiful food by our seaside.
