A few years ago, Joy and Oliver Robbins quit their jobs in Nashville and moved to the beach — a risk, but they were young. Even if it went south, they could recover.

The bought a fixer-upper and began the remodel, but within months found out they were having their first baby.

“There was a hole in my roof, we’re pregnant and we have no jobs,” Joy said, laughing.

The couple made it work, though, and they haven’t looked back. In the years since, they’ve doubled their family (they now have two kids under the age of 3) and have both found jobs they love.

Joy teaches at Seaside Neighborhood School, the real-life school that often surprises visitors to this storybook community. Oliver works with Premier Properties and runs a blog about 30A life. Check it out at homesat30a.com.
