The individual enclaves that line the beaches of Scenic Highway 30A in Walton County, Florida, are varied and unique. One more serene stretch of sand is Blue Mountain Beach which is not only a lovely place to visit but—at sixty-four feet—is also the highest elevation all along the Gulf of Mexico. Here you will find delicious food, outdoor adventures, wellness activities, and shopping to delight travelers and locals alike.

While you will find a total of fourteen coastal dune lakes all along 30A you will be glad to know two of them reside in Blue Mountain. Little Redfish and Big Redfish Lakes offer ample opportunity for fishing, boating, and paddle boarding and both provide photographic opportunities unlike any other. These mesmerizing bodies of water are surrounded by lush vegetation and bring a serene, peaceful vibe for outdoor enthusiasts of any age.

When it’s time to get some sun there are three wonderful public beach access points for beachgoers to enjoy. The Blue Mountain Regional Beach Access, located at 2365 South County Highway 30A, offers ample parking (including two handicap-accessible spots) a convenient bike rack, and restroom facilities as well. If you’re there on the right day you might even catch local surfers catching a wave as this seems to be one of their favorite haunts. It’s also worth noting that this access point is dedicated to the memory of Major Lawrence R. Heller who served in the armed forces from World War II through the Korean War. The Seagrade Road Access at 590 Blue Mountain Road is another option and if you get there early you might even grab one of the coveted parking spots and you’ll be glad to know one of them is handicap accessible. In addition to those locations you’ll find two other very secluded spots with walking or bicycle access only and they are both two of my favorite hideaways. Blue Lake Road Access, at 726 Blue Mountain Road and Gulf Point Road Access at 446 Blue Mountain Road are hidden treasures that are not to be missed. If you are looking for a more peaceful, serene beach vibe this is where you want to be.

Forgot to pack your picnic lunch? Want to visit the beach but not the kitchen? Never fear! The many restaurants of Blue Mountain Beach have got you covered. From grab-and-go treats to sit-down meals to rival any other, you can’t go wrong with any of these tasty spots.

Blue Mountain Beach Creamery is well-known and well-loved for the ever-changing flavors it serves. It is not uncommon to see customers lined up across the parking lot and even down the side of the road waiting to get their sweet treats. Their handcrafted ice cream is not like any other and definitely not to be missed. The Shake Shack located around the back is famous for their milkshakes, frozen custard, shaved ice, and of course, the freshly made donuts.

Johnny McTighes Irish Pub provides a lively, warm atmosphere where you can find not only Irish hospitality and a warm atmosphere, but you’ll also find a wide range of beer on tap. Their food is delicious and they do a Ruben sandwich better than anywhere in town. Believe me when I tell you that the Irish Nachos (where tater tots take the place of chips) are a surprising treat and don’t sleep on their pizza—it’s top-notch. Whether you’re looking to catch a game, meet up with friends, or simply enjoy a meal along with the lively ambiance, this pub offers a welcoming and vibrant experience.

Red Fish Taco is a local favorite for many reasons. Their mouth-watering meals, thirst-quenching margaritas, and live music are at the top of the list. The taco salad topped with grilled chicken thighs is my personal favorite and adding a piece of street corn is never a bad idea.

Cowgirl Kitchen will satisfy your cravings for comfort food with a modern twist. This charming eatery is housed in one of the original Seagrove Beach Motel cottages (Believe it or not, they moved it here all in one piece!) and offers a menu filled with creative dishes that combine Southern favorites with global flavors. Their mouthwatering breakfast burritos & tacos, lunchtime sandwiches, and of course the meatloaf plate served with macaroni and cheese will keep you coming back for more. Side Note—if you’re there for breakfast—get the praline bacon and thank me later.

Blue Mountain Bakery will wake up even the sleepiest taste buds with their freshly baked goods. From artisanal bread and pastries to mouthwatering cakes and pies; this bakery is a haven for anyone who loves to indulge in a fresh flaky croissant. The aroma of cakes, pies, and of course their famous cinnamon rolls are simply tantalizing. As the day goes on they offer wraps, salads, and other tasty options. I suggest you arrive early though as those cinnamon rolls usually sell out—and be sure you say yes to the warm icing when they ask.

Basmati’s Asian Cuisine will take you on a culinary journey to the Far East with a menu that showcases the vibrant flavors and aromatic spices of authentic Asian cuisine. This hidden gem serves up sushi rolls, sashimi, Thai curries and Chinese stir-fry dishes prepared with precision and care. Treat your taste buds to an explosion of flavors and enjoy the inviting atmosphere. If you visit in the cooler months, ask to sit out on the back porch and take in the view.

Local Catch offers a true taste of Gulf Coast seafood where you’ll find fresh catches sourced from local fishermen served daily. From delectable fish tacos and shrimp po’ boys to their succulent crab cakes you can count on each bite to delight your taste buds. And for all you Alabama Football fans—there’s no better place to watch a game in the fall.

Sally’s By The Sea Store is not just a gas station and convenience store but also has a grill in back that locals flock to. Pop in to grab a bag of ice and some drinks for your cooler and grab a sausage egg & cheese biscuit for breakfast or a burger for lunch. Walk around back after dark and you’ll find Redd’s Fueling Station Pub. This place is like no other and you’ll find the bartender, Redd, singing songs while she slings drinks and entertains the friendly crowd. Their menu is filled with tasty appetizers, burgers, and daily specials. And yes—Redd takes requests….gratuities and bribes are gladly accepted.

A new spot full of great choices is The Village. Here you’ll find Coffee Shop at 30A—a great spot to grab a cappuccino and a pastry or crepe and you can also try a smoothie from Real And Raw which focuses on clean eating and healthy, organic ingredients. There’s also 30A Thai Cuisine with a menu of authentic dishes full of color and flavor. Another favorite here is Mimmo’s—a family-owned restaurant specializing in authentic Italian flavors and they proudly serve dishes with love. Their handmade pasta, wood-fired pizza, and flavorful seafood creations celebrate the richness of Italian cuisine. Pair your meal with a glass of fine wine and you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to the heart of Italy.

Once a prominent chef and owner of a South Walton restaurant, Justin transitioned in 2001 to embrace the world of visual arts. Using a palette knife and pure acrylic paints, he crafts vibrant, deeply textured, and multi-dimensional artworks. While his pieces often burst with color, he also experiments with softer hues and even pure white sculptures. His art, predominantly inspired by the natural beauty of Florida’s Scenic Highway 30A, adorns both private residences and public spaces globally. His original works are exclusively available at his Seaside Gallery and his must-visit Studio/Gallery in Blue Mountain Beach.
