How to BEach LOCAL: 5 Fun Questions Answered by Locals

Marketing Coordinator, Alys Beach

1. Favorite thing about living at the beach?

SUNSETS! Our sunsets constantly remind me of how grateful I am to be living and working in 30A. When I finish [working] each day, I’m less than a minute drive to seeing an unforgettable sunset year round with each one bringing a new unique blend of colors running across the sky.

2. Three favorite local spots?

Chiringo – When I’m at Grayton Beach, Chiringo is my go to hangout spot for a bite to eat & drink, seeing friends and GAMES! You can catch my friends and I playing corn hole and life size Jenga (check out our annual Jenga Bell’s Tournament every year in December).

NEAT Bottle Shop & Tasting Room – NEAT has the best cocktails in the area! NEAT brings such a cool and different ambiance that you really can’t find anywhere else locally. The charcuterie boards are delicious!

Idyll Hounds Brewery – I can’t leave out Idyll Hounds! With many events happening there all the time such as: Adult Game Night, Drunken Spelling Bee, Houndfest, Oyster Rick from 30A Oyster being there frequently, there’s always a great local crowd and live music to enjoy while having a craft beer.

3. Best place for a night out?

An instant local gathering, Nanbu Noodle Bar with Chef Nikhil Abuvala has quickly become my favorite spot for a night out. Whether it’s date night or girls night, I always gravitate towards the spicy tuna poke bowl or the mouthwatering pork buns. Nanbu carries an upbeat vibe, paired with eclectic food and friendly faces.

4. Most delicious menu item?

There are too many places to count, but with my being a morning person, Chef McDonald & the team at Black Bear Bread Co. keep my taste buds happy! They bake their bread fresh daily, making their avocado toast one of my favorite meals to wake up to (add a poached egg on top, trust me).

5. What do you like to do in your free time?

Hands down, beach volleyball at Grayton Beach!!! We have a huge local following playing weekly with multiple nets set up. So if you’re a beginner learning the game or have played competitively, everyone is welcomed to play. You can get weekly updates on the Facebook group page “Grayton Beach Volleyball” or you can follow the Instagram account @graytonvolleyball for updates as well!

Bonus: How long have you been a local?

I grew up in Panama City and spent many summers visiting the 30A area. However it wasn’t till 2016 that I finally moved to the area, and I am so happy I did! 30A is truly a hidden gem and I’m blessed to live here.

Are you a local or know someone who is? Want to be part of our ongoing 30A Q&A series?  Answer the five questions above and send a high quality headshot (preferably horizontal) to [email protected], and we just may include you next!
