6. Set sail for tradition: Join the thrilling Rags to Riches Regatta.

The Rags To Riches Regatta has a storied history spanning over four decades. It originated in 1981 as a friendly sailing competition on Independence Day, organized by a group of sailors in Grayton Beach. Instead of vying for a monetary prize,participants aimed for the ultimate rewards of bragging rights, a stylish t-shirt, and a well-deserved beer at the finish line. Today, this beloved tradition continues as locals and visitors alike gather to cheer on teams navigating 16-foot Hobie Cats in a thrilling race from Grayton Beach (affectionately known as the “rags” side) to Seagrove (dubbed the “riches” neighborhood). Not only is the regatta a spectacle of skill and camaraderie, but it also serves as a fundraising event for the South Walton Artificial Reef Association (SWARA).
