We caught up with Nicki Thompson of The Hub to find out a few of her top places and guilty pleasures! 

1. What’s your favorite dessert on 30A?

This is a tough choice with so many amazing restaurants and bakeries in the area, but I have to go with the tiramisu from Amici 30A Italian Kitchen. It’s not overly sweet and has a perfect balance of espresso-soaked cake and creamy mascarpone layers.

2. What’s your favorite local event?

The Thanksgiving Day 10K in Rosemary Beach. It’s such a fun race and a great way to start the holiday – get in your run, then eat, drink and be merry for the rest of the day! The event also benefits local charities and is a nice way to give back to the community.

3. What’s your favorite way to spend time outdoors?

Running along the bike path! For my longer run days, I like to do the stretch from Rosemary Beach to The Hub and back. It’s right at 6 miles and there are biscuits and bacon from Big Bad Breakfast at the end!

4. According to you, what local restaurant, park or activity is underrated or underappreciated?

I love the beach access at Deer Lake State Park! It has a quarter-mile boardwalk across white sand dunes leading to the beach. The walk is beautiful and gives a glimpse of what the entire area must have looked like years ago.

5. What’s your favorite month on 30A? And why?

Definitely, November on 30A. It starts to get a bit cool but not too cold and the sunsets seem to have a darker red glow. It’s the perfect month to bundle up for a sunset walk on the beach!
